In February, we promote healthy smiles by joining with our dental community to offer free dental screenings right inside the Museum! Kids can pretend to be the dentist in our Puget Sound Dental Office exhibit and meet Amazon of Olympia as Wonder Woman and as Captain Carter (see below for dates and times). From sewing a toothy pillow to exploring super-sized animal teeth (fangs and sabers of giant cats), families can enjoy fun and engaging dental health activities all month long.

• Build toothbrush bots
• See some of the biggest teeth (smilodon, big cats, wildcats)
• Sew a monster mouth or tooth fairy pillow
• Explore different animal and insect teeth (herbivore, omnivore, carnivore)
• Play with electric bytes (connect circuits to power dental objects)
• Meet and get your photo taken with Amazon of Olympia (as Wonder Woman) Feb. 2, 5–7 p.m. & Feb. 24, 2–4 p.m. Amazon of Olympia (as Captain Carter) will be here Feb. 17, 2–4 p.m.
• Free Dental Screenings for kids every Saturday in Feb. from 2–4 p.m. & First Friday Night Feb. 2 from 6–8 p.m. Museum admission is also free with your screening. Reservations required. Don your best Irish and join in Shamrock’n the Harbor. The family-friendly run/walk event encourages all ages to get seriously Irish. Run, walk, or skip along your Shamrock’n journey!
The 5k and 12k routes take runners, walkers and strollers, o’er the hills, dales, streets and trails of our greater Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula region. Shamrock’n the Harbor benefits the Gig Harbor Senior Center and is a great excuse to get outside while helping a great cause.
Andrew Sords is developing a reputation as an artist of “consummate musicianship, and bravura.”
Join us as he takes on a “David and Goliath” recital featuring not only works for violin and piano, but works for violin, piano, and tuba! Works by Beethoven, Bloch, Brahms, and Sarasate.
Tickets: General admission $35 (plus service fee)
*This event is in partnership with Pacific Lutheran University. PLU students, faculty and staff, are free.
The 13th Annual Pierce County Bike Swap is a FREE family-friendly community event put on by Ride Together Pierce, where anyone can sell or buy used bicycles and bicycle parts. We encourage you to bring a helmet if you plan on test-riding bikes.
At the Bike Swap, Ride Together Pierce is planning on providing:
- BIKE CORRAL: Buy a bike or sell a bike at our Bike Corral. If you have 1-2 bikes to sell, this is the recommended route. There are no listing or selling fees. You do not need to sell a bike to buy, or trade. Come find your new-to-you ride!
- BIKE SAFETY CHECKS: Make sure your future bike is safe to test ride by taking it through a quick safety check first by a professional bicycle mechanic.
- LOW-COST HELMETS: Provided by Downtown on the Go, bicyclists can purchase affordable helmets and get a proper helmet fitting.
- BIKE MAP MASTERS: Discuss best biking routes with seasoned local riders at the Bike Map Masters station.
- BIKE SKILLS PRACTICE AREA: Folks of all ages and abilities can practice safe riding skills such as balancing, scanning, stopping, turning, and more.
- VENDORS: We will be inviting local bike shops and bike-related organizations to show off their products and share the latest information with you on bicycling in Pierce County. If you have several bicycles or bike parts to sell, we recommend you register as a vendor. There are no vendor fees.
- FOOD TRUCKS
Tacoma Farmers Market creates vibrant marketplaces where local farms, small businesses, and organizations connect directly with the community.

Regional mental health needs highlight Changing Minds event
Funds support MultiCare Behavioral Health
Tickets are now available for Changing Minds, an annual benefit of the MultiCare Behavioral Health Foundation to create awareness of and support for mental health issues.
The fundraiser highlights the demand for mental health services in our region, and how MultiCare Behavioral Health has responded by integrating mental health treatment into primary care settings through collaborative care and school-based partnerships.
A luncheon will be held Tuesday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Grand Hyatt Seattle’s Leonesa Ballroom, 721 Pine St., Seattle. While tickets are free, guests will be asked to make a minimum donation of $150.
Former Evening Magazine host Angela Poe Russell will emcee the event. Other speakers at Changing Minds include MultiCare Behavioral Health providers and a patient who will discuss the impact of accessible behavioral health care.
The deadline to reserve tickets to the luncheon is April 30.
