Movie Night at the Museum @ Tacoma Historical Society

Join us for snacks and a FREE showing of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s 1961 film “Ring of Fire”! In this thrilling train adventure, two sheriff deputies arrest three teenagers for robbery but are overpowered and taken hostage while forest fires rage all around them.

After the showing we’ll discuss some behind-the-scenes info about the filming locations in Washington and the train that was used!

Runtime for this film is 1hour and 31minutes. While we have chairs at the museum, feel free to to bring seat cushions from home to make your viewing more comfortable!

This event is FREE or by donation. Donations can be made through Eventbrite or at the museum.

Buffalo Soldiers Visit DuPont Historical Museum @ DuPont Historical Museum

The DuPont Historical Society and Museum invite you to a fun history event for the entire family. Reenactors from Buffalo Soldiers of Seattle will share living history from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. at Robinson Park, adjacent to the museum. A permanent Buffalo Soldier exhibit at the DuPont Historical Museum was funded by a DuPont Lodging Tax grant and a Sparks Diversity grant through Pierce County Heritage League. Learn more about the historic 1904 Ninth Cavalry encampment on the north bank of Sequalitchew Creek.

Tacoma Bon Odori Festival @ Tacoma Buddhist Temple

Our Tacoma Buddhist Temple Bon Odori Festival is back after 3 years! As part of our religion, we honor those who have passed by celebrating them through Japanese traditional dancing called Bon Odori. Everyone is welcome to dance, enjoy the food or just watch the dancing and taiko performances. 4pm: Food, beer garden, info booths, Japanese items for sale and Kings Books table. 4:30: Obon service. 5pm: Dancing and taiko drumming will occur in front of our temple on Fawcett Avenue up from UW Tacoma. 8pm: memorial candle service.
