Enjoy a 60-minute yoga practice in this historic building that celebrates the rich maritime history of the region. Inspired by the bay and the importance of community connection, feel rested and restored with a mellow flow that ends with ten minutes of relaxation (Savasana, pranayama, and/or guided meditation).
(Age 13+) Slow down and enjoy the healing benefits of time spent in nature with a mindful yoga practice. Meet at the picnic shelter at the Rhododendron Garden and enjoy a walk along the gravel trail of the Garden Loop. We will stop along the way to practice breathing techniques, mindful movement, and gentle stretches while observing and listening to the forest around us. This class is great for yoga beginners or anyone that enjoys being outdoors. No yoga mats needed but comfortable attire and shoes recommended. In partnership with Yoga Wild and class will be led by a Yoga Wild Instructor.

City of Puyallup community observance of Memorial Day will be held in the Pavilion of Pioneer Park, Pavilion with a patriotic, memorial program on Sunday, May 29th, at 1 p.m. The event is indoors, free and for all ages.
Island Empire Tour featuring Fiji, Sammy J, Eli Mac and Western Conference
Good news for outdoor concert fans! The Island Empire Festival featuring Fiji, Sammy J, Eli-Mac and Western Conference is coming to Tacoma’s Dune Peninsula on Saturday, July 16. Bring your chairs and blankets for seating on the lawn at this beautiful waterfront park with expansive water and mountain views.

- Host: Irene Dubois -Irene is a super host with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater. You can find her hosting at Queer Bar and Julia’s On Broadway.
- DJ Special K – You can find Kharen DJing on the weekends at Night Market and Drag Brunch Market, she is a favorite in the community!
- DJ Miss M – DJ MISS M plays for the Seahawks, Seattle Storm DJ, and UW Huskies Basketball Mens/Womens DJ. Her podcast is heard all over the world in 100+ countries. She is a resident DJ for IHeartradio in Seattle, Portland and Sacramento.
- DJ Zehno – Miami based DJ and winner of Dinah Shore DJ battle. DJ Zehno is a well-known female DJ that brings passion to the decks, her love for music keeps everyone dancing!
- DJ Lauren Von Deadly – Spinning at the Splash Park!
- Live Music: Rachelle LaNae – Rachelle is a local singer-songwriter. She creates original music for individuals, companies, film and tv. She also works as a lyricist, teacher, recording artist, performer, and podcaster.
- Live Music: Vicci Martinez and band -Vicci Martinez is an American singer-songwriter and actress from Tacoma, Washington. She placed third on NBC’s singing competition series The Voice in 2011 and played a role in the series Orange is the New Black. She released her 2012 album with Republic Records, and self-released her 2015 album.

A Structured Introduction to the Art of Aikido

Always wanted to train in a martial art? Looking for a fun way to stay fit? Needing some self-defense skills? Interested in diving deeper into the art of movement? The Aikido Beginners Series is for you!
The Beginner Series provides a structured introduction to the dynamic martial art of aikido – a great foundation begin your practice. In this 6-week series, we’ll cover the history and philosophy of aikido, dojo etiquette, safe falling and rolling, basic responses to a variety of strikes and grabs, and introduce aikido weapons work. Designed as a jumping off point for regular dojo membership, participants can join regular dojo classes at any time – before, during, or after the series.
No experience or equipment is necessary. Wear loose clothes that cover the knees and elbows and bring an open mind. A woman-led dojo, Tacoma Aikikai is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive space, mutually respecting people of all race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, background, faith, age, and ability.
Cost: $100. Sliding scale fees available and no one turned away for lack of funds.
Eligibility: Adults and teens age 16+.
Space is limited – please register early.

Aikido is a modern martial art developed in Japan. Known as “the way of harmony”, aikido neutralizes an opponent’s attacks through joint locks and throws. Through sincere training, students of all ages and abilities find confidence in conflict resolution, improved fitness and flexibility, and an overall sense of well-being.
Who is Tacoma Aikikai?
Tacoma Aikikai, rooted in the lineage and discipline of Japanese martial traditions, has offered community-centered and woman-led aikido martial arts instruction since 2016. Instructors Ea Murphy and Eric Gillet have decades of experience training and teaching aikido across cultures and continents.
