What could be more delightful than a summer evening under the trees at Lakewold Gardens, savoring a glass of wine with friends while enjoying the music of MusicWorks4Vets. John Selzer’s band enhances the quality of life for military veterans by hosting inclusive jams and encouraging participation in the music-making process. Partygoers will hear from artist Wes Davis, founder of Bedlam Arts, a group for veterans that encourages mindfulness through painting and creative expression in a social environment. Spirited and beloved art auctioneer Laura Michalek will entertain and encourage us to bid on beautiful art pieces donated by local artists. The Gardens are for healing and joy: be there to support the Gardens you love.

DuPont Performing Arts Walk @ State Farm Grounds

The DuPont Performing Arts Walk is a Performing Arts event that brings dancers, musicians and actors to DuPont. Audience members will be led to different performance spaces. At each location they will see a different performance by a local arts organization. This outdoor event will take place on the Northside of the State Farm grounds facing Clock Tower Park.

Participating performing groups include Tacoma Little Theatre, Olympia Symphony and The Accidental Woodwind Trio.

Please note that this is a walking and standing event. Please wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to stand for the performances. There will be a limited number of chairs available for audience members who have difficulty standing.

The Kinsey Collection Opening Block Party @ Tacoma Art Museum

Join Tacoma Art Museum as we celebrate the opening of The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection! Be among the first to see the exhibition and take part in a one-of-a-kind Block Party. Free to all from 1pm – 8pm, this community festival will feature live music from area DJs, performances from T.U.P.A.C. and the Vision Step Team, and live art-making from Tacoma artist Perry Paints. Grab a bite to eat from one of the local food trucks and pick up a piece of art from any one of the community artists who will be selling their work in the Tacoma Art Museum Store and our events space. Free parking is available at the Tacoma Art Museum, the Tacoma Courthouse, and the Children’s Museum.

The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection | The Myth of Absence @ Tacoma Art Museum

Through a powerful and engaging interactive presentation, Bernard, Shirley, and Khalil Kinsey give an in-depth view and perspective of the objects and periods in history featured in the Kinsey African American Art & History Collection. The presentation inspires, educates, and entertains – filling in gaps to the American story by highlighting the many and often untold examples of African American achievement and contribution. During this dynamic presentation, audiences are introduced to the “Myth of Absence” concept that has played a significant role in America’s view of African Americans. Serving as a virtual tour of The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection, the presentation prompts you to question what you were taught and challenges thought processes in regards to race and contribution in America.

Please plan to arrive on time or early, we will release seats at 2 pm.

This program will be held in our event space just off the lobby with easy access from both entrances to the museum. The lecture will be recorded and available to view on our Youtube channel after the event.

We are limiting our capacity for this in-person event in regulation with the Pierce County Health Department’s regulations. All visitors are required to wear a mask. More information about how TAM is keeping you healthy can be found here.
