The Harry Partch Ensemble in Concert @ University of Puget Sound Schneebeck Concert Hall

Harry Partch (1901–74) was a true original. A brilliant visual and performing artist, composer, and philosopher, he questioned aspects of music that most of us take for granted. In particular, he believed that by uncritically accepting the limited pitches available on the piano as sufficient, Western composers had fallen for a “scam.” He devised extraordinary new theoretical frameworks for his music, and also invented and crafted the unique instruments required to play the music he imagined. Lovers of art, science, and iconoclastic thinking are warmly invited to the residency of the Partch Ensemble and the Partch Instrumentarium. All events are free and open to the public.

Prepare to let go and allow it to unfold as it may. I will guide YOU through some exercises before we start painting so that we can drop down and fully embrace our experience together. Some things for YOU consider: How do you want to feel coming to the workshop? Will you wear something that you LOVE? Perhaps a favorite piece of jewelry or a crystal tucked into your pocket. A talisman of sorts to accompany you on your adventure! When I take a minute to decide how I want to feel I usually end up feeling JOY in my heart because I made time for ME! We will play on the canvas with paints and stencils and create a fun time as YOU send love to YOUR own heart from beautiful, fabulous YOU through a “LOVE Note”. YOU will gather up all the LOVE, IMAGINATION, KINDNESS and paint it into YOUR canvas. Puget Sound Mini Maestros: Jungle Jams @ University of Puget Sound Schneebeck Concert Hall

Mini Maestros is an interactive family concert series for children ages 2–8 years old. This concert features brass musicians from Symphony Tacoma with narration by a dynamic childhood music education expert. Jungle Jams will take you on a musical adventure into the jungle to hear how brass instruments can sound like animals. Advanced tickets may be purchased online via Symphony Tacoma’s website, with remaining tickets at the door.

Concert time is 2:30 p.m. with an instrument petting zoo at 1:30 p.m. in Schneebeck Concert Hall.

From America’s “First Family of Jazz” presented with the NEA’s highest honor, the Jazz Masters Award, Marsalis is also a producer (Harry Connick, Jr., Spike Lee, Wynton Marsalis, etc) in jazz today and an esteemed educator, who has toured with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Max Roach, and Elvin Jones, and has been featured by Ken Burns on PBS. Unguarded Art Auction @ LeMay: America's Car Museum

Incarcerated artists in prisons statewide are raising money for social justice causes and victims of domestic violence through the Unguarded Art Auction from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at LeMay America’s Car Museum.Admission is $10 and includes parking, partial museum access, tapas, and one drink ticket.

Attendees will be able to bid on more than 200 pieces of inmate-made art which includes paintings, sculptures and Native American beading. All proceeds will be split among the YWCAs of Pierce, Kitsap, Seattle, King and Snohomish counties.
