Nisqually Watershed Festival @ Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge

The 30th Annual Nisqually Watershed Festival is an annual celebration of nature featuring art, discovery, music and family fun. The Festival includes live performances, displays from local organizations, walking tours, the Insect Extravaganza, a salmon barbecue and other great coffee and food options. Watch a salmon dissection, listen to traditional stories, learn about raptors, bears, and bugs, tour the Refuge trails or Nisqually Nearshore, make a salmon lifecycle keychain and other crafts, and bring a t-shirt to make a fish print with a Nisqually salmon!

Entrance is free all day! Festival parking will be at River Ridge High School, 350 River Ridge Drive, Lacey, with a shuttle to the Refuge running every 15 minutes.

Beyond Aging Health Fair @ Lacey Community Center

SOLO PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP STARTS MONDAY OCTOBER 7th, 2019 6:30-9:30, EVERY MONDAY UNTIL DECEMBER 2nd.

This workshop is for anyone who stands alone in front of an “audience” and wants to or must tell a story, present an idea, give a speech, act a play, or convey a message.
Your “audience” might be in a theater, a classroom, a workspace or a conference room. You might be presenting to patrons, students, children, co-workers, employees, or managers. You may an actor, dancer, circus artist, musician, or storyteller. This workshop is for ANYONE that needs to stand alone in front of an audience and create whatever is you need to convey!
You are a Solo Performer!

The only requirement is that you bring an IDEA. It can be a prop, a movement, a lesson plan, a speech, a poem, a word, a thought, etc. Michelle Matlock will lead the group through a creative process that she has used to develop her solo work for the past 20 years.

This process includes theater games, acting exercises, movement, exploration, improv, and discussions that provoke, communication skill-building, material development, character building, motivation, playing, storytelling, stage presence, confidence, writing and of course just getting on your feet and starting.
It all starts with what motivates you!

Creating original work and any form of solo performance is a personal journey that requires a safe and open space with constructive feedback. This workshop is exactly that and much more.

Your experience will be tailored to your individual needs!

Michelle will lead 1 three-hour workshop per week for 9 weeks. During the final week, each full workshop participant will present up to 10 minutes of new material at a Work In Progress Showcase (free invite-only, family and friends).
Each participant will get a digital video of their own performance.

WORKSHOP STARTS MONDAY OCTOBER 7, 2019- 6:30 PM TO 9:30 PM AND CONTINUES ONCE A WEEK, EVERY MONDAY, ENDING ON DECEMBER 2, 2019.

You can attend all 9 classes and participate in the showcase OR you can drop into individual workshops as often as you want (minimum attendance of 7 workshops to be in the showcase).

Stewardship Work Party at Mount Rainier Gateway Preserve @ Mount Rainier Gateway Preserve

We will be removing invasive Himalayan blackberry from our Mount Rainier Gateway Protected Area. Himalayan blackberry is a nasty invasive that can quickly out-compete native vegetation and prevent it from growing. It’s important that we work to control the blackberry so our forests can thrive!
We will be working rain or shine, so please dress for the weather.
We will provide tools including gloves, coffee, water, and snacks.
We will be meeting at Ashford County Park. Please follow the Registration link and register to receive our exact meeting location and driving directions.

PBS PlayDate @ Children's Museum of Tacoma

The Children’s Museum of Tacoma is proud to partner with KBTC to provide PBS Play Date one Saturday a month from 10-11:30am. Museum and KBTC staff provide hands-on opportunities for families to expand upon favorite PBS Kids shows like Daniel Tiger and Curious George, through art, science, invention, or craft.

PBS Play Date programs are presented in partnership with KBTC and are funded by a Ready to Learn grant (PR/AWARD No. U295A100025, CFDA No. 84.295A) provided by the Department of Education to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Programs in association with KBTC are FREE to all participants. The PBS KIDS logo is a registered mark of PBS and is used with permission.

World Food Day is celebrated annually on October 16th around the world. It’s a day to come together to declare a commitment to end worldwide hunger from our lifetime.

The Ocean5 and Table 47 team invite you to join us to support families in our own community. At Gig Harbor’s FISH Food Bank (http://www.ghpfish.org/), CEREAL is one of their most needed items in October. So, let’s collect as many as we can together!

Stream Cleanup: Protect and Restore Clover Creek Creek, Salmon Are Orca Food!

Creeks are vital to the health of salmon breeding which provides a critical food source for the Orcas.The Chambers Clover Watershed Council invites you to join us to improve water quality for our community – salmon and Orcas included! We will pick up trash along Clover Creek in Lakewood. The creek has a low water level this fall and a variety of trash needs to be removed. Join us for an hour or longer! We will provide trash bags, some gloves, snacks, and directions. Please: Dress for the weather! Wear boots/waders for the muddy or low water creek bottom; Bring garden or work gloves; Bring water to drink.We will meet at the end of 47th Avenue SW in Lakewood (map below). The parking area will be marked with orange cones.

From Lakewood west of IH5, proceed south down Bridgeport Way toward JBLM.
When you reach Pacific Hwy, turn left onto Pacific Highway.
Proceed past Denny’s for about 1/2 mile.
Turn right onto 47th Avenue SW. There is a Ford dealership at this corner.
Drive 1/2 mile to the end of 47th where it dead ends at Clover Creek. Look for orange cones and parking.
