With the gruff humor of Cormac McCarthy, a dash of the madcap irony of Charles Portis, Holbert once again traverses America’s northwestern border to find a family unlike any you’ve met before. Set in 1991, WHISKEY tells the story of two brothers, their parents, three wrecked marriages, a bear in a camper, and a family life at its most distressed. It explores kinship, failure, and the way we as humans struggle for love, self-knowledge, grace, and a grip on life that won’t just burn our fingers.

Join Bruce Holbert for a reading, discussion and signing…and perhaps a shot of whiskey.

Back by popular demand an encore performance from the award winning cast of THE ADDAMS FAMILY! The cast will present a one act, dress rehearsal preparing for the upcoming aactWorldFest national competition, June 18 – 23, in Venice, Florida. Tacoma Musical Playhouse will be representing the United States.

About the performance: THE ADDAMS FAMILY features an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents.

Every Wednesday night at Tacoma Comedy Club we have Open-Mic Night! This is where dreams are made, and nightmares come true. This night has everything from professional comedians working out new material, to comics getting on stage for the very first time. The best part is, it is FREE! There is no cost to attend open-mic night, and it is happy hour all night. So if you want to get a laugh, feel better about your life, and have a couple drinks, then Tacoma Comedy Club is the place to be on Wednesday nights! (Must be 18 or older to attend).

If you are interested in performing, e-mail openmic@tacomacomedyclub.com between Thursday at noon, and Monday at noon, before the Wednesday you want to perform. If you are selected you will be notified by Tuesday at noon. If you are not selected just continue to try each week. The more weeks you e-mail, the more you will be selected to perform. If you plan on bringing a group of friends let us know, that will improve your chances. If you are not selected we still encourage you to come watch the show. If you arrive between 7 and 7:30 you can sign up for a drawing. We pick one comic the night of to perform. You will get three minutes when you first start, and can work your way up to four or five minute sets. Please e-mail if you have any questions.
