Topics will include hive types and materials and participants will construct and tend hives located in Pt. Defiance Park to gain practical knowledge. Local experts and students from Tacoma’s Science and Math Institute will be present to answer questions and offer opportunities to expand your apiary community. Ages 16 and older. Pre-registration required.

Point Defiance Rose Pruning Demo @ Point Defiance Park Rose Garden

Consulting rosarians from the Tacoma Rose Society and Metro Parks staff will demonstrate rose-pruning techniques and share information on how to care for roses and get them ready for the growing season. Guests will be able to observe various rose-pruning and care techniques up-close, and try their hand at pruning in the garden.

Participants should bring a notepad and pen, rose gardening implements from home to try out (pruners, gloves, etc.), and weather-appropriate attire, since the demonstration will be held outside, regardless of the weather.
