Rattle Dem Bones Halloween Bike Ride and Costume Contest @ Kimball Drive Park and Ride / Cushman Trail Trailhead near Wilco Store
Oct 29 @ 8:00 am – 1:00 pm

Round up the little goblins (or maybe your ghoulfriends) and join us for Rattle Dem Bones – a group bike ride for people of all ages and abilities, followed by a spook-tacular Halloween party in boo-ti-ful Gig Harbor!

Rattle Dem Bones has something for anyone: Cyclists riding Monster Hills will be challenged by some good climbs and overtaken by gorgeous scenery. Anyone terrified of Monster Hills can take on the Son of Monster, still lovely but shorter and less hilly. Casual riders seeking healthy outdoor activity, but not necessarily wanting to be super heroes, can ride as much or as little as they wish on the Mini-Monster route. We invite anyone who doesn’t want to ride to help support the riders with good cheer… and candy!

All riders and volunteers are invited to the post ride party, featuring music and the awards ceremony – with prizes – for best costumes in several categories, including best themed group, best volunteer and best use of the bike as part of the costume.

Proceeds from Rattle Dem Bones benefit the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation’s Community Recreation Fund – we are going to have fun and also make it possible for all kids in our area to join in sports and recreation activities, regardless of their family’s ability to pay registration fees and equipment costs. Ride is limited to 250 riders, so plan your costume, tune up your bike and register for Rattle Dem Bones today!

THE 27TH ANNUAL MODEL TRAIN FESTIVAL @ Washington State History Museum
Dec 22 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Take your family and friends on a magical journey through the marvelously detailed world of model railroads at the Washington State History Museum!
Friday, December 22, 2023 – Monday, January 1, 2024
Closed Sunday and Monday, December 24 and 25.
Included with admission.

The Model Train Festival brings railroad clubs from around Puget Sound to share their incredible, room-sized layouts in the History Museum! Every floor of the museum comes alive with trains, from the Kitsap Live Steamers 7.5-inch gauge railroad engines to the Mount Rainier N-Scale layout featuring miniature scenery of Western Washington and so many more.

Plus, the largest permanent model train layout in Washington is always on display at the museum on the fifth floor, operated by Puget Sound Model Railroad Engineers. Train operators will be on hand for questions and conversations.

Take a break from the live layouts to relax and enjoy trains on the big screen in our auditorium. We’ll feature footage from I Love Toy Trains and I Love Big Trains, from filmmaker Tom McComas with delightful songs by James Coffey. Learn about freight train signals, railroad history and what it’s like to be an engineer. Great for kids and train lovers of all ages!

The Model Train Festival wouldn’t be complete without a memorable photo opportunity! Step into our seasonal backdrop for free selfies.

Remember to pick up your collectible train button at the Admissions desk, too!
