“Is the American Dream at the expense of the American Negro?”
This was the topic on February 18, 1965, when an overflow crowd packed the Cambridge Union in Cambridge, England, to bear witness to a historic televised debate between James Baldwin, the leading literary voice of the civil rights movement, and William F. Buckley Jr., a fierce critic of the movement and America’s most influential conservative intellectual.
The stage was set for an epic confrontation that pitted Baldwin’s call for a moral revolution in race relations against Buckley’s unabashed elitism and implicit commitment to the status quo. This historic clash reveals the deep roots and lasting legacy of racial conflict that continues to haunt America. The objective of restaging this historic debate is to bring back their words and ideas 55 years later so that we may consider our current position and what steps we must take to overcome systemic racism, white supremacy, and overt inequity.

February 25, 2023, 11 am to 6 pm, FREE FAMILY EVENT at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall
We are excited to have our event back at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall. Our host is the beautiful country of Samoa, showcasing its cultures and traditions. Look for a very exciting and high-energy show from the many performers of this amazing country. To celebrate 25 years, this year promises to be a jammed pack day of fun, food, and entertainment for the whole family.
25 years marks a celebration of a family event that started in 1998 with Vietnam as the featured and host country. The year was attended by over a thousand people, with a few vendors and very entertaining cultural performances and demonstrations from all the countries that participated.
The New Year Celebration was thought of as a way for APCC to showcase the many countries and cultures that we represent. It also served as a vehicle to connect further with our surrounding community in Pierce and neighboring counties.
Through the years our New Year Celebration has become a much-anticipated community event with attendances of over 10,000 people and over 100 vendors along with many food booths, martial arts, and hands-on demonstrations.

OUSTED: Britten’s Four Sea Interludes tells the story of Peter Grimes, a psychologically troubled outcast from an English fishing village. Local composer Dr. Gregory Youtz sheds light on perhaps the most tragic chapter of Tacoma’s history in Tacoma Method, an opera about the wrongful expulsion of the city’s Chinese community. Brahms draws inspiration from Bach, Beethoven and Schumann in his deeply passionate Symphony No. 4, one of the most loved symphonies of the Romantic period.
