Craftopia: Papermaking class @ Craftopia

Join us for a family-friendly, fun evening making your very own paper! Learn about the process and make sheets of your very own paper to take home. You’ll be able to play with color, decorations, and make your very own unique paper to turn into cards, journals, or anything else you can dream of.
$15 per person. Ages 6+. Children under 10 need a parent with them to help. Paper takes about 24 hours to dry, so you can make arrangements to pick up your dried paper later at the studio, or bring a towel and box to transport home to dry yourself.

Craftopia: Origami for Kids @ Craftopia

Ailey II is universally renowned for merging the spirit and energy of the country’s best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today’s most outstanding emerging choreographers. Founded in 1974 as the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, the company embodies his pioneering mission to establish an extended cultural community that provides dance performances, training, and community programs for all people. Under the direction of Sylvia Waters from 1974 to 2012 and Troy Powell from 2012 to 2020, and now under the direction of Francesca Harper, who trained at The Ailey School and who has choreographed for both Ailey companies – brings fresh perspectives to Mr. Ailey’s legacy, while nurturing new creative voices and propelling the Company forward. Ailey II has flourished into one of the most popular modern dance companies, combining a rigorous touring schedule with extensive community outreach programs. Dance Magazine calls Ailey II “second to none,” and The New York Times declares, “There’s nothing like an [a performance] spent with Ailey II, the younger version of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.”

Craftopia: Crochet Crash Course @ Craftopia

Learn to crochet in two hours? Yes please! In this beginner course, we will go over the basic tools and supplies needed to crochet, learn the terminology, and explore some of the stitches you can use later to make amazing crochet pieces. This is a fast paced course with lots of information!

A celebration of the human spirit and the joy of cooking.

Po Boy Tango tells the story of Richie Po, a Taiwanese immigrant who turns to his estranged friend Gloria, an African-American Soul Food Chef, to help him recreate his mother’s ‘Great Banquet’. Despite the challenges of shark fin soup, duck po boy sandwiches, and underlying cultural tensions, they find common ground through their shared humor and the blending of traditional Chinese cuisine and African-American soul food. Helped by lessons from Po Mama’s television cooking show, the two discover a deeper understanding of food, culture, and the nature of friendship.

Rachell Ellen Wong, 2020 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient, will perform Felix Mendelssohn’s lustrous Violin Concerto. Wong will dazzle you with her virtuosity in this favorite piece. Dmitri Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony, widely regarded as his finest, depicts both the struggle of the Stalin regime and the triumph at its end.

Craftopia: Beginning Weaving class @ Craftopia

In this class, learn the basic techniques of weaving to create your own wall hanging. Choose from a variety of colors, materials, and styles of yarn and rope to make your very own hanging art piece! While the technique is fairly simple, this can be a time-consuming process, so learners may need to complete their project at home.
