A Structured Introduction to the Art of Aikido
October 6th – November 10th
Thursdays 6:30-7:45 pm

“In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s mind there are few. ” – Shunryu Suzuki

Always wanted to train in a martial art? Looking for a fun way to stay fit? Needing some self-defense skills? Interested in diving deeper into the art of movement? The Aikido Beginners Series is for you!

In this 6-week series, we’ll cover the history and philosophy of aikido, dojo etiquette, safe falling and rolling, basic responses to a variety of strikes and grabs, and introduce aikido weapons work. Designed as a jumping off point for regular dojo membership, participants can join regular dojo classes at any time – before, during, or after the series.
No experience or equipment is necessary. Wear loose clothes that cover the knees and elbows and bring an open mind. A woman-led dojo, Tacoma Aikikai is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive space, mutually respecting people of all race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, background, faith, age, and ability.
Cost: $100. Sliding scale fees available and no one turned away for lack of funds.
Eligibility: Adults and teens age 16+.
Space is limited – please register early.
