With a PhD in Mass Communications and Women’s Studies, Dr. Alexandra Nutter teaches courses in media studies and popular culture at the University of Washington Tacoma. Her current area of interest is how economics affect self-branding and personal identity in online spaces.

This selection of films will be a curation from the last three Backyard Theater events, brought back for your viewing pleasure by popular demand. So, if you missed one, two, or all three of our past screenings, now is your chance to watch a loving mash-up of some our favorite films so far!

Finley Mimbles is a local Tacoma production company with a silly name. Every couple months, we put on our own film screening event called The Backyard Theater where we showcase all our latest works.

Who’s excited for the upcoming election? Literally no one? Great! As you know, comedians often get political. Politics and comedy go together like Paul Ryan and Crossfit; like Amazon and tax breaks; like Tim Eyman and a stolen office chair.

So imagine our excitement when we learned that the conservative Pro-Trump “hit” “comedy” tour called “The Deplorables” was coming to Tacoma’s very own Pantages Theater!

Now we hope everyone who wants to go enjoys their $57+ tickets to this national extravaganza, but we here at Bob’s Comedy Jive believe in two things: equity and comedy. So, on the same night we’re bringing you a fine evening of subversive and political comedy from some of the best femme/queer/nb/trans/poc comics in the PNW – a.k.a. a bunch of snowflakes! Aren’t identity politics awesome?

And just so you know – after we pay our fine comics, all profits will be donated to our local YWCA Pierce County. Virtue signaling is kind of our thing!
