A Midsummer Night’s Dream @ Lakewold Gardens

Shakespeare in the Garden! This abridged version of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is adapted by PLU Professor Tom Smith and directed by John Serembe. The production will feature actors playing multiple roles and youth fairy dancers, accompanied by a live piano adaptation of selections from Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream performed by Lark Powers and Ricardo de la Torre. With the beautiful gardens as a backdrop, it will be a magical evening!

Kite Festival @ Chambers Creek Regional Park

Our Kite Festival is back bigger than ever with two fun-filled days at Chambers Creek Regional Park. The entire family will be captivated by amazing kite demonstrations, family kite flying, inflatables, food trucks, vendors, and other fun activities! Bring your kites, blankets, cameras, and get ready for this adventure-packed weekend of kites.

Each day 250 kites will be given away, compliments of the Pierce County Kitefliers Association!

Need a kite? Pre-purchase and register for a kite kit online with us and build it yourself at the park! On the day of the event, pick up your kits at our Parks booth in the Central Meadow. Kite Kits are $4/kit.

Tacoma Puzzle Hunt @ Tollefson Plaza

Get ready for the newest puzzle hunt event to land in the PNW! The Tacoma Puzzle Hunt is the combination of a scavenger hunt with interactive puzzles and brainteasers that uses problem solving and team building to bring people together in an exciting competition – similar to an outdoor escape room. Race other teams around downtown Tacoma in a local competition that is sure to be the most fun you’ll have all day!

Armed with his Spanish guitar, Benise will take the audience on an unprecedented and epic adventure through Spanish Flamenco, Cuban Salsa, Brazilian Samba, Parisian Waltz, exotic drumming, and more!

Bring the whole family as “Fiesta!” takes the audience to a beautiful Spanish courtyard filled with Flamenco dancers, stunning costumes and fiery Spanish guitars.

Port of Tacoma Book Signing @ Tacoma Historical Society

Join Tacoma Historical Society for our August Monthly Program presented by Rod Koon, author & former communications manager for Port of Tacoma. Rod will be discussing his recent publication “Images of America: Port of Tacoma” which details the history and development of the Port of Tacoma.

Copies of Rod’s book will be available for purchase and signing during the event.

Refreshments will be provided. Doors open at 6:00pm for exhibit viewing, talk begins at 6:30pm. This event is FREE or by donation. Donations can be made through Eventbrite or at the door.
