DEFY Most Dangerous @ Alma Tacoma
Jan 20 @ 8:00 am

TACOMA WA:
DEFY Wrestling returns to ALMA TACOMA Friday, January 20th with DEFY MOST DANGEROUS.

We’ve got a massive tag team match scheduled with members of THE DARK ORDER from AEW taking on former DEFY World Tag Team Champions STATE OF EMERGENCY with TARA ZEP! We will also see the DEFY debut of the dangerous MARINA SHAFIR as she battles the “Joshi Slayer” CAT POWER!

After the last DEFY event at ALMA Tacoma we saw LEVI COOPER bully GUILLERMO ROSAS for most of their match, with ROSAS narrowly escaping with the win only to get jumped from behind. LEVI then attacked him from behind and cut a piece of hair from GUILLERMO’s head. This will lead to a special HAIR versus HAIR match January 20th at ALMA.

Returning to DEFY; TIKTOK stars THE VORO TWINS will be facing SINNER & SAINT in a fight over potential shots at the tag team championship. Former DEFY World Champions will go head to head as DAVEY RICHARDS steps into the ring against ARTEMIS SPENCER! So much more is set to take place THIS FRIDAY!

Dreams & Dispossession Exhibit Opening @ Tacoma Historical Society
Jan 27 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

The Tacoma we know today was shaped by its origins as a railway terminus for the Northern Pacific Railway. The railroad brought new people, new industries, new opportunities, and new conflicts into the area. For good or ill, this event changed the lives of everyone living along Commencement Bay.
Dreams & Dispossession explores the stories of the individuals who were directly effected by these changes.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for viewing. At 6:30 p.m., Ethelda Burke will speak on the experiences of her father, Edwin Dorsey, as an African-American railroad porter in the 1940s.
Event is free; donations at the door are welcomed.

Southwest Washington Scholastic Chess Championships @ Centralia College
Feb 4 @ 9:00 am

The Southwest Washington Scholastic Chess Championships will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023 at Centralia College. Pierce County middle and high school students of all skill levels are invited to participate.

The high school championship will include both team and individual chess scoring. Being a Regional Championship, winning high school teams will qualify to play in the 57th annual Washington State High School Chess Team Championships, which will be held on March 3-4 at Stanwood High School.

In the past, high school teams would qualify for the state championship by winning their local high school chess league. Last March, regional qualifying tournaments were introduced to provide a direct path to the state championships for areas without a high school chess league, such as Pierce County.

Entry into the tournaments is free, courtesy of non-profits Washington High School Chess Association and Chess Enrichment Association. Advance registration required.

Mar 18 @ 8:30 am

Greater Gig Harbor Foundation’s 2nd Annual Shamrock’n the Harbor is a 5K/12K family-fun run/walk. 100% of the proceeds from Shamrock’n the Harbor benefit the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation’s Gig Harbor Senior Center. The Senior Center is the only organization specifically working to meet the needs of our community’s seniors through regular programs, activities and services that enable them to remain active and thrive.

The courses follow the gorgeous Cushman Trail, with a few rolling hills to keep those legs awake and working; and for those doing the 12K you’ll get a gorgeous view from the Narrows Bridge. All ages can get seriously Irish while jigging o’er the hills, dales, and trails along your Shamrock’n journey!

All runners and volunteers are invited to the Post Run/Walk Céilí at Dunagan’s Irish Pub in Gig Harbor. Join us for awards, music and more!

The Run/Walk is limited to 200 participants, so prepare for some fun shenanigans and register today!
