Always wanted to train in a martial art? Looking for a fun way to stay fit? Needing some self-defense skills? Interested in diving deeper into the art of movement? The Aikido Beginners Series is for you!
The Beginner Series provides a structured introduction to the dynamic martial art of aikido – a great foundation begin your practice. In this 6-week series, we’ll cover the history and philosophy of aikido, dojo etiquette, safe falling and rolling, basic responses to a variety of strikes and grabs, and introduce aikido weapons work. Designed as a jumping off point for regular dojo membership, participants can join regular dojo classes at any time – before, during, or after the series.
No experience or equipment is necessary. Wear loose clothes that cover the knees and elbows and bring an open mind. A woman-led dojo, Tacoma Aikikai is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive space, mutually respecting people of all race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, background, faith, age, and ability.
Cost: $100. Sliding scale fees available and no one turned away for lack of funds.
Eligibility: Adults and teens age 16+.
Space is limited – please register early.

All of Us Journey at Tacoma Community House @ Tacoma Community House
Oct 3 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

All of Us is a new research program from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The goal is to advance precision medicine. Precision medicine is health care that is based on you as an individual. It takes into account factors like where you live, what you do, and your family health history. Precision medicine’s goal is to be able to tell people the best ways to stay healthy. If someone does get sick, precision medicine may help health care teams find the treatment that will work best.

To get there, we need one million or more people. Those who join will share information about their health over time. Researchers will study this data. What they learn could improve health for generations to come. Participants are our partners. We’ll share information back with them over time.
