Pierce County Habitat Stewards Training @ Zoom - Virtual event

The National Wildlife Federation is offering a specialized, multi-week online training to teach you how to help others create and restore wildlife habitat in backyards, schoolyards, and other private and public areas. You get to meet and interact with local conservation professionals and other similarly interested folks while participating in this engaging, fun and highly informative online program!

Benefits include: a comprehensive, digital training manual with local resources; instruction from local professionals; and continued support from NWF staff.

Expert speakers will present on topics such as:

-Gardening for wildlife
-Improving soil quality
-Habitat restoration
-Mushrooms and fungi
-Bird friendly gardening
-And much more!

Classes will take place May 25th, 27th, June 1st, and 3rd from 6:00 – 7:00 pm via a free video conference platform.

A COVID-safe School Yard Habitat installation field trip will be held Saturday, May 29th and Sunday, May 30th. Participants are asked to attend one, but are welcomed to attend both events.

Orca Action Month Virtual Kick-off Event @ Zoom

Join the Orca Salmon Alliance as we kick off the 15th annual Orca Month. This year’s theme “We Are Family” underscores the distinct connection between Southern Resident orca lives and human lives.
The virtual kick-off event is emceed by Alan Budwill of the Kent and Alan radio show, and includes:
– Presentations by Washington Poet Laureate Rena Priest, Washington Representative Debra Lekanoff and California U.S. Representative Jared Huffman
– Narrated video footage of Southern Resident orcas
– Research webinar with Ken Balcomb and Michael Weiss of the Center for Whale Research, Mike Ford of NOAA Fisheries, Monika Wieland Shields of Orca Behavior Institute, and Dr. Deborah Giles of Wild Orca

Craft Saturdays at Job Carr Cabin Museum: Butterfly Suncatcher @ Job Carr Cabin Museum

Job Carr Cabin Museum is offering socially-distanced Craft Saturdays! Take-home craft kits include all the materials and instructions needed for a fun at-home activity.

June 12, Butterfly Suncatcher – Children can use the materials provided in this take-home craft kit to create a butterfly suncatcher.

Pick up a free craft kits from the Museum’s front porch, 11am – 1pm, while supplies last, at Job Carr Cabin Museum, 2350 N 30th St, Tacoma, WA 98403

Please use social distancing etiquette when you pick up your craft kit.
Instructional videos will also be posted on the Museum’s YouTube channel.

These Craft Saturday events are designed to meet state and local public health guidelines.
– All visitors must wear face coverings.
– Please maintain at least six feet distance from other museum visitors.
– Visitors will not be able to enter the museum building.
