This workshop will be a high energy playful exploration into various ways to just have fun using improvisation and theater games for acting, clowning, solo, sketch comedy, and ensemble work. Great for beginners, playful fun makers and actors who are in the game. You will leave feeling like a more well-rounded performer. It’s like a performance workout and everybody is welcome! We have fun! Led by Rachel Lionheart and Michelle Matlock.

$12 per person

Rachel Lionheart is a performance artist, actor, and writer. Born in the Northwest and a graduate of New York University’s (NYU) Experimental Theater Wing, renowned for its interdisciplinary approach and graduates like Moises Kaufman, Chris Giarmo, and Kate Valk. Rachel has performed original, improvised, scripted, and collaborative works of theater in New York, Pennsylvania, Oregon, and Washington — among them Shitzokoko and The Funeral of Sir Francis Rottenfoot, Sr.

Drawing from her studies in physical theater at NYU and mindfulness practices at The Shambhala Meditation Center of NY, Rachel facilitates workshops and masterclasses on improvisation, acting, and story-telling that are rooted in presence, physicality, and vulnerability. Rachel lives in Tacoma and enjoys coffee, parks, and roof-top yoga.

11th Annual Pierce County Cancer Survivorship Conference @ University of Puget Sound

The Pierce County Cancer Survivorship Conference is free annual event to support and celebrate the community of cancer patients, survivors, and their caregivers in the South Sound.

Conference runs 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Light breakfast and lunch included.

28 Breakout sessions throughout the day explore an array of topics supporting cancer fighters and survivors. Topics from Stress and Cancer, Alternative Therapies, Personalized Medicine and Cancer Genomics, Estate Planning, Medical Cannabis, Cell Therapy Research, Physical Therapy, Cardio Dance, Food and Nutrition, and more. The Tacoma Concert Band’s Summer Concerts in the Parks Return! @ Sylvester Park

The Tacoma Concert Band, beginning its 40th season and under the leadership of its new conductor Gerard Morris, is excited to announce the return of its annual series of Summer Concerts in the Parks! After a brief hiatus, the TCB will again be presenting its popular series of “pops” concerts in some of the region’s most attractive settings. Included in the program will be some of the music from the band’s February MILITARY SALUTE concert, which unfortunately was “snowed out,” plus other selections designed to blend perfectly with a beautiful Northwest summer evening. Admission is always FREE, so pack some snacks and bring the whole family!
