Tacoma Runners Thursday Run @ Tacoma

The Thursday night beer run started in January, 2010, with just seven runners. It’s a social run that now exceeds one hundred runners nearly every week of the year. Thousands of people have joined this run from every corner of the region.

The Thursday night run is approximately three miles long. This distance is a night off for some; it’s aspirational for others.

Aging EXPO 2018 @ Pierce College Puyallup

Don’t miss the opportunity to learn about the new realities of aging and how to make the most of the gift of longevity by attending the Aging EXPO 2018, Saturday May 5 from 8 am to 4 pm at Pierce College, Puyallup in celebration of May as Older Americans Month. This year’s theme, Engage at Any Age, emphasis that we are never too old (or too young) to take part in activities that will enrich our physical, mental and emotional well-being.

The day features two outstanding keynote speakers, breakout educational sessions on a variety of aging topics plus an exhibitor section. Lunch is available for purchase. General public is free. Professionals seeking CEUs $50; PCCA members $35. Register at www.aginginpuyallup.org.

Hunger Walk and 5K Run @ Fort Steilacoom Park

Does a stroll through the park sound like a great way to spend your Saturday morning? At the Hunger Walk & 5K Run you can enjoy a morning of beautiful lake views and help your neighbors in need at the same time.

On May 5, Emergency Food Network is hosting the Hunger Walk & 5K Run at Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood. Participants in this 38th annual event will walk around Waughop Lake or run in a chip-timed 5K. Family-friendly activities and live music are also provided at the start/finish line.

Family Nature Walk @ Varies

Explore Tacoma’s Parks during this free naturalist-led walk. Discover amazing plants and animals and how they adapt to the seasons. Walks are organized and led by Tacoma Nature Center staff.

Not recommended for strollers or children under 3. Pre-registration is required. You may sign up online or by calling the Tacoma Nature Center at (253) 404-3930.

The Many Shades of Lupus @ Asia Pacific Cultural Center

A Multicultural Experience held at the beginning of Lupus Awareness Month that will honor those who survive and thrive with this devastating disease. While raising the much needed funds for lupus research being conducted at Seattle Children’s and the University of Washington; our goal is lupus awareness and education here in the South Sound.
There will be several opportunites to increase your awareness of lupus, one of which will be a special program called “The Many Faces of Lupus” where fighters and supporters will share their stories of how lupus has affected their lives.
We are very excited to offer live entertainment by local young talents, cultural bites and treats, and awesome raffle prizes like Pre-Season Seahawks Tickets! Seattle Mariners Tickets! Tacoma Rainiers Tickets! and more.

50th Anniversary Just Like You Gala Dinner & Auction @ Historic 1625 Tacoma Place

Actor/comedian Bill Chott is the night’s guest emcee at Centerforce’s Just Like You Gala Dinner & Auction. Chott is currently in the documentary “Too Funny to Fail” on Hulu. He is best known as Mr. Laritate on Disney’s “Wizards of Waverly Place.”

Letter Carriers’ Food Drive @ Pierce County Mailboxes

How does the Letter Carriers’ Food Drive work in Pierce County?

1. Leave a bag of non-perishable food at your mailbox on May 12.
2. Your postal carrier or a volunteer will pick it up.
3. EFN distributes the food to our neighbors in need in Pierce County.
